Is it bad if...
If I have a M/E and I want to be a healer + prot? Someone told me I was stupid for picking the elementalist as my secondary if I wanted to be a healer and I should've picked a mesmer because of some energy problems I may run into. I guess what I'm asking is it okay to have an M/E if I want to heal?

mesmer is one of the best secondary professions for a monk!
but you can change it after you get to the desert. what you will need is manta of recall and drain enchants. but while being an ele secondary you can use glyth of lesser energy which is...ok |

Yes its ok but with mo/mes u get inspired hex, energy tap, and such which will help u manage ur energy, but with a mo/e u dont get those advantages, it is possible to heal as mo/e or u can just switch ur secondary profession

Your secondary shouldn't really be an issue...Seems like most dedicated monks rarely use their secondaries anyway....though I can see the benifit from using masmers ability to copy elite skills and use them twice...I'd say ele will serve you just as well if you play it right....What's right? That's for you to feel out. Dont worry so much and have fun...you can always change it later if you feel you must.

ah thank you all so much for the responses, this makes me feel better. I also didn't know you could change your secondary which takes off some of the 'stress' as well. From the looks of it though (although I probably won't be using my secondary abilities all that much) it would just be safer to change my secondary once the time comes to a Mes., so I think that's what I shall do.

For PvE a healer rarely needs any extra energy management. PvE is so stupidly simple.
Avoid 10-15 energy spells as much as possible. If your group constantly needs multiple Heal Party's, get a new group, that one is doomed. There are enough decent 5 energy heals to fill half the skillbar. Don't overheal. Overhealing is the biggest waste of energy on a monk. If your groups whamo starts yelling for heals when he's at 75% health, ignore him. pay attention to the ele who decided to get into melee range instead. Then revert to the end of the above suggestion. |

I have a monk who is mo/ele and i'm rarely in any energy problems
(i have more energy problems with my monk/mes) Just like Hockster said you have to avoid the huge energy spells, take the 5 energy spells and signets (signet of devotion and signet of rejuvenation are some great skills that don't cost you anything) Here is a nice build for a mo/ele: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Mo/E_Divine_Spirit_Spammer |

The Mo/E Divine Spirit Spammer is great. I tweaked it a bit for PvE, but basically your energy always stays at its max because your spells cost less than the speed your energy regens at. I would use it more often, if it didn't mean sacrificing Mesmer utility spells that I like to bring.

When I monk, the secondary doesn't really matter much to me. I usually straight up heal or protect with divine favor pumped up.

My monk has mesmer secondary-I think. I've never had any secondary skills on my bar.
You just have to remember that it's your healer's job to keep the party alive, not to keep everyone at 100% health. That's the biggest mistake new healers make. That and spamming Heal Party when only 2 players are taking damage. There's a lot of good 5-energy healing spells that do the job. Word of Healing is my favorite, and it's best used on someone under 50% health. Sometimes you have to adjust your tactics, such as if there's an overly aggressive wammo(or ele who thinks he's a wammo) in your group, but as a general rule you shouldn't be healing at the first sign of damage. I seldom run out of energy and everyone is usually alive after the battle. (I'm not perfect! Sometimes it happens.) |

Mo/E is not stupid....
i was using ds spammer healer (as mentioned by ti ni xian) and it works fine in pve... but after i start to use mo/me, i truly do see the divineness of MoR esp with CoP.... by the way, please make a distinction between Mo and Me, i first thought you were talking about a Me/E, i went HUH?! heal port?!?! |
